The Power of Support: Finding Your Accountability Partners
Aug 31, 2023On the journey toward better health and wellness, we often find ourselves in need of support.
Just as we rely on a car to get us to our destination safely and on time (unless you're like me and usually run 10 minutes late), having accountability partners is essential for staying on course. Most of us require the encouragement and assistance of others to maintain our motivation and effort. So, the question is:
Do you have the support you need?
In this article, I share the importance of finding your people and drop some tips to help you establish a strong support system that keeps your fitness fire burning.
-
Determine Your Why: To find your circle of support, it's crucial to understand WHY you want to achieve your health goals. Sit with God and scroll through His Word to clarify your motivations and desires, as this will guide you in finding individuals who align with your purpose.
-
Seek Inspiration: Look for someone who has already achieved your aspirations. Finding a mentor who has 'been there and done that' can provide valuable insights and inspiration. Learn from their experiences, observe their strategies, and set your plan in motion.
-
Emulate and Adapt: Once you've identified someone you resonate with, notice their practices and habits. Emulate their approaches and tweak them to suit your unique circumstances. Remember, it's about finding what works for you and making it a part of your daily routine.
-
Activate the Spirit's Power: As a Believer, you have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as a powerful gift to strengthen your drive. Believe in God's ability to work in and through you to take action and achieve your goals, for God's strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9).
-
Reach Out for Help: Don't hesitate to seek assistance when you slip or stumble along the way. Asking for help is not a sign of failure but a testament to your commitment to growth. Find a coach, do your research, and pray about your fears... please don't stay stuck and silent.
-
Plan for Success: Create a safe and sustainable plan (hint: The Well Stretched Life™ program does that for you!) outlining your starting point and desired destination. Break it down into manageable steps and milestones (we call them Doable Doses). Measure your progress with checklists (if you're a list maker) and celebrate each success along the way.
-
Embrace Grace: Remember to give yourself plenty of grace throughout your journey. Progress is not always in a straight line and looks different for everyone. Setbacks are a natural part of the process, so be thankful for the mistakes and keep moving forward with renewed grit.
We were never meant to do it alone.
From the beginning of creation, God created us to thrive in relationships, with Him and others. Connecting with others who share our goals and values may require discomfort and vulnerability, but the reward is worth the effort!
In Summary:
Determine your motivation, seek inspiration, emulate those who are succeeding, activate God's power, ask for help, make a plan, and be kind to yourself when progress stalls. Continue the cycle of receiving support and giving back for a fit and fulfilling life!
